WESTFIELD – Westfield Public Schools Superintendent Stefan Czaporowski has announced the appointment of Westfield resident and Westfield High School graduate (Class of 2003) Ryan Dunphy as the new supervisor of athletics, intramurals and physical education for grades 9-12, for both WHS and Westfield Technical Academy.

Dunphy’s official start date is Aug. 12, but he isn’t waiting to get started.
“I’m looking forward to working with the kids and the coaches, and continuing the strong athletic program Westfield has. I’m excited to get started,” Dunphy said on Saturday, adding, “There are a lot of people I need to meet.”
Dunphy holds a Bachelor’s degree from UMASS Dartmouth in Operations Management and a Master’s degree from Old Dominion University in Sports Management. He is registered as an athletic administrator with the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association. In addition, he holds advanced credentials from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America and a Level D credential from the US Soccer Foundation.
Dunphy coached soccer for two years at Global Premier Soccer; for seven years at Chicopee Comprehensive High School, and for four years at Western United Pioneers.
For the past eight years, Dunphy has been a teacher at Chicopee Comprehensive High School teaching business and sports management classes.
“Playing sports in high school helped teach me a variety of skills including teamwork, reliability, passion, commitment, companionship, and many more. That is why my motto for high school athletics is ‘teaching through sports,’ ” Dunphy said.
“Ryan’s commitment to coaching the whole athlete in both academics and sports is grounded in his days as a student at Westfield High School,” Czaporowski said.
Czaporowski said the selection was made after a comprehensive search committee process. Members of the committee included coaches, parents, a School Committee member, and principals from both Westfield High School and Westfield Technical Academy. Members were charged with reviewing applicants, conducting initial and confidential interviews and recommending a slate of candidates to the superintendent, who then interviewed the finalists and made the selection.
“The process of hiring new administrators in the district continues to include stakeholders recommending finalists which are then vetted at my level. This process has led to the selection of candidates who have a focus on the best interest of students in Westfield,” Czaporowski said.
