WESTFIELD – Westfield State women’s soccer split a pair of matches at the season-opening Cyclone Kickoff Classic hosted by Centenary College in Hackettstown, N.J. on Friday and Saturday.
The Owls topped Drew (NJ) University 1-0 on Friday, scoring the lone goal of the match on a Drew ‘own goal’ as a defender deflected the ball into the net off of an Owls corner kick in the 32nd minute of play.
Owls’ senior goalkeeper Natalia Falcone made that lead stand up, as she made nine saves to earn the shutout.
On Saturday, the Owls fell to Ithaca (NY) College in a hard-fought 1-0 decision.
The Bombers’ Shoshana Bedrosian scored the lone goal of the match in the 19th minute. The Bombers (2-0) out-shot Westfield 13-7. Westfield split the game in goal between senior Natalia Falcone, who made three saves in the first half, and Brianna Hawley, who stopped a pair of shots in the second half.
