WESTFIELD – Westfield State University will induct five new members to the school’s Athletics Hall of Fame on Friday, October 16.
The induction class includes Mike Walker ’75, Kevin Dalton ’77, Tim Corr ’02, Pat Ryan ’04, and Tessa Donoghue ’05.
Walker was a goalkeeper on the Owls men’s soccer team that advanced to the NCAA FinalFour and placed third in the nation in 1974, earning all-conference honors and posting seven shutouts as the team finished 17-4-2 overall. After graduating, Walker later served as the first head coach of the Westfield State women’s soccer program from 1979-1982, posting an overall coaching record of 29-17-2. Walker is an assistant vice president at MassMutual and resides in Wilbraham, Mass.
Dalton was a standout distance runner and a two-time All-American in the 3000 meter steeplechase. He set a school record of 9:14.2 which still stands today. He placed second in the MASCAC Cross Country championships in 1975. Dalton is a semi-retired attorney with the firm of Glovsky and Glovsky in Beverly, Mass.
Corr was an All-American defensive end for the Owls football team, starring on the 2001 team that posted an unbeaten regular season record and made the program’s first and only appearance in the NCAA playoffs. He earned honorable mention All-America honors from D3Football.com, and was an All-Conference and All-New England selection as well. He holds the school record for sacks with 28.5. Corr is currently a specialty sales representative with AstraZeneca pharmaceuticals and resides in Kingston, Mass.
Ryan was the MASCAC baseball Player of the Year as a senior in 2004 and was selected to play in the prestigious New England All-Star Game at Fenway Park after his senior season. He set Westfield State records for career batting average (.447) and for triples in a season (10) and career (16). Ryan was an all-New England selection in both seasons he played at Westfield after transferring from North Adams State. Ryan, a Dalton, Mass. resident, is currently a teacher at McCann Technical High School in North Adams and coaches the baseball team.
Donoghue was a 5-time All-American in women’s track and field at Westfield State University, placing second in the nation in both the long jump and the triple jump. In two years at Westfield she was a 13-time MASCAC champion in a multitude of events. Donoghue transferred to Westfield from Wheaton College, where she was an 8-time All-American and a national champion in the long jump as a freshman. Donoghue is currently a teacher at the Adult Career Pathways Program at Valley Opportunity Council in Chicopee and resides in Chicopee, Mass.
This is the 20th induction ceremony for the Westfield State Athletics Hall of Fame. With this class there are now 127 inductees.
The induction dinner and ceremony will be held Friday, October 16 in Scanlon Banquet Hall on Campus. Those interested in attending must register in advance. Cost for the dinner is $55. Online registration is available at http://www.WestfieldAlumni.org/HOF
