WSU trounces Framingham, 7-1

WESTFIELD – The Westfield State University men’s ice hockey team remained undefeated by trouncing Framingham State, 7-1, before a boisterous crowd of 506 at Amelia Park Arena on Saturday evening.
The red-hot Owls improved to 6-0 overall and 3-0 in the MASCAC heading into their key non-conference game on Tuesday, Nov. 20, at Amherst College, the alma mater of Owl head coach Bob Miele. Framingham is 0-3 overall and 0-3 in the MASCAC.
The Owls blasted 52 shots and received another stellar effort in net from sophomore transfer goalie Ian Perrier, who finished with 33 saves. Perrier just missed recording the highly coveted shutout as Framingham scored with 1:01 remaining in regulation on a goal by Jay Nicholls.
Perrier made several key stops in the first period when the teams played to a stalemate before Westfield scored with 52 seconds remaining in the stanza on a goal by sophomore transfer TJ Powers. Powers was the only multiple goal scorer in the game, leading the balanced attack with two goals and two assists.
Westfield pulled away in the second stanza with a four-goal outburst. Sophomore standout Steve Evans scored in the seventh minute then the Owls reeled off a three goals in a span of two minutes and 25 seconds to take a commanding 5-0 lead with 4:46 remaining in the second period.
Junior captain Vince Perreault had a hat trick assist with three helpers on the evening. Mike Puddifant and Taylor Murphy each had a goal and an assist.
