WSU upends Elms, 4-1

WESTFIELD – Junior forward Sarah Pliszka (Enfield, CT) scored two goals and senior forward Liz Hall (Southwick) notched three assists to pace Westfield State University to a 4-1 victory over Elms College in non-conference field hockey action yesterday.
Westfield improved its record to 4-2 heading into Saturday’s home conference game vs. Plymouth State. Elms College is 1-5.
Pliszka, who leads the Owls with four goals this season, opened the scoring the 1:33 into the game, with an assist from sophomore forward Kelly Kenney (Suffield, CT).
Senior midfielder Lauren Tavares gave the Owls a 2-0 lead 2:10 into the second half, aided by the first of Hall’s three assists.
Hall’s helper hat trick increased her total assists to seven this season. She also leads the Owls in scoring with 11 points.
Pliszka and Hall teamed up to score the Owls’ third goal in the 60th minute. Hall then assisted senior forward Ali Feldman’s with 2:09 remaining in the game.
Elms’ goal was scored in the 63rd minute by freshman forward Kristina Kopyscinski (Agawam).
Westfield State outshot Elms, 12-3, and Blazer goalie Alexandra Bonavita (Agawam) recorded six saves.
