WESTFIELD – Jenn Rennich (Bedford, Mass.) scored one goal and assisted on another as Westfield State posted a 3-0 win over Fitchburg in a MASCAC women’s soccer match on Friday night.
The Owls got four saves from freshman goalkeeper Lauryn Davis (Templeton, Mass.) as she earned the shutout win.
Westfield improves to 5-4-1 overall and 2-1 in the league, while Fitchburg falls to a 4-7 and 1-2 in the MASCAC.
Westfield State grabbed the lead 56 seconds into the contest as senior Bella Eduardo (Springfield, Mass.) connected on her sixth score of the year off an assist from Rennich for the 1-0 edge.
The Owls doubled their advantage in the 32nd minute of action when junior Lydia Kinsman (Granville, Mass.) gathered a feed from junior Morgan Remington (Enfield, Conn.) and headed the ball inside the near post for her fifth tally on the year.
Following the break, Fitchburg threatened as freshman Elizabeth Read (Lowell, Mass.) and junior Shannon McCarthy (Chicopee, Mass.) put shots on frame, but Owls’ keeper Davis turned aside both shots.
Westfield State secured the victory late in the stanza with Rennich notching her second goal of the 2019 campaign, resulting in the 3-0 final.
The Owls held a 22-4 margin in shots, while also registering an 8-2 edge in corner kicks
Senior Sarah Hemmings (Eastham, Mass.) made eight saves for Fitchburg State in the setback
