INDIANAPOLIS – Westfield State University field hockey/softball player Kelsey Carpenter (Barre, Mass/Quabbin Regional High School) has been appointed as one of 23 members of the NCAA Division III National Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, the NCAA announced earlier this month.
The student-athlete advisory committee (SAAC) is a committee made up of student-athletes assembled to provide insight on the student-athlete experience. The SAAC also offers input on the rules, regulations and policies that affect student-athletes’ lives on NCAA member institution campuses.
Carpenter, who will be a junior during the 2013-14 academic year, will serve on the committee through May 1, 2016. She is an active member of SAAC at Westfield State and for the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference. She will serve as the vice-president of the Westfield State SAAC during the 2013-2014 academic year.
Carpenter was a starter this past academic year for both the Owl softball and field hockey teams. She was a second-team all-conference selection in field hockey. A defensive standout for the 11-7 Owls, she ranked second in the conference and 16th nationally in defensive saves with nine.
Carpenter was a starting outfielder for the Westfield State softball team. She played in all 35 games and batted .245.
Carpenter also excels academically with a 3.88 cumulative grade point average. She is a criminal justice major/sociology minor.
