Y promotes reading

Project PRAL (Promoting Reading and Literacy) is an exciting new addition to the Y’s Kids After School programs. Reading serves as the major foundational skill for all school-based learning. For a child to become a good reader, it takes a partnership that begins at home and continues at school. As a part of our mission at The YMCA of Greater Westfield, we want to continue that partnership here in our programs and encourage out of school learning. If you would like to be a guest reader at one of our Y’s Kids After School sites or have books to donate to our school age library please contact Kaitlyn Chambers, Assistant Youth Development Director at (413) 568-8631 x310 or via email at [email protected].Below are some holiday poems by the Y’s Kids at our Main Y site that services Munger Hill Elementary, Abner Gibbs Elementary, St. Mary’s, North and South Middle School.

Christmas
by Addison Wakelin
Christmas is full of joy
Getting toys
Spending time with family
Santa going down the chimney
Putting up the Christmas tree
We all love Christmas!
So get out your wish list
Because Santa’s coming!

Christmas
by Sam Lisowski
Christmas is coming! At the YMCA we will be having a Christmas Party!
Christmas is a peaceful time of the year. It’s a time to spend with you family.
Candles
Happiness
Reindeer
Imagination
Santa
Time that you spend with you family
Mistletoe
All jolly during Christmas
Sledding.
The times we spend without family are wonderful.
I hope you all have a cheerful and exciting Christmas!
