SOUTHWICK – The Southwick-Tolland Regional High School softball team is showing no signs of slowing down.
Southwick’s offense battered the ball, and pitchers Emily Lachtara and Oliviah Diamond proved to be a winning combination on the bound as the Rams cruised to a 19-3 rout of visiting Holyoke Catholic Thursday.
“We did kind of the same thing that’s got here so far,” said Southwick coach Todd Downie, whose Rams are off to unbeaten 6-0 start. “We played good defense, our pitchers pitched strikes, and our offense put the ball in play. Good things happen when you do the things you have to do.”
The offense managed to put the ball in play quite a bit, in fact, Thursday.
Southwick’s Alyssa Kelleher went 3-for-3 with a double, triple, three runs, and three RBIs; Katelyn Silva put together a 4-for-4 effort with a double, four runs scored, and an RBI; and, Sam Brozinski finished 3-for-4 with an RBI and three runs. Jen Yellin (2-3, 4 RBIs, 2 runs) and Sidney Rogers (3 runs, RBI) each went 2-for-3 for the Rams.
Lachtara allowed no hits and struck out two batters in two innings. Olivia Diamond allowed two hits, two walks, and recorded five strikeouts in three solid innings of relief. She allowed three runs.
Notes: Southwick is currently 4-0 in league play.
