LONGMEADOW – It is a road that the Westfield High School girls’ lacrosse team would rather have traveled less.
Westfield ran into a buzzsaw against a familiar Western Massachusetts heavyweight Wednesday on the road in the Longmeadow Lancers. The Bombers fell 19-3.
Long meadow (7-2, 4-0) built a double-digit lead in the first half, knocking Westfield’s starting goaltender from in between the pipes. The Bombers persevered, and it paid off in the final minutes of the half as Grace Silva scored off a pass from Laura Paye to break up the shut out.
Olivia Chaoush and Rachel Gelina each scored a second-half goal.
Ten players scored for Longmeadow, including Alison Tetrault (4 goals), Olivia Shapiro (3 goals, 3 assists), and, Claire Fitzpatrick, Liz Katsoulis, Taylor Low, and Michaela Smith, who scored two goals apiece.
Longmeadow goalie Hannah Valencia earned the victory with four saves. Westfield goalie Maileen Kozak finished with eight.
Westfield will attempt to bounce back Friday at home against East Longmeadow, beginning at 4 p.m.
