SPRINGFIELD – Westfield State finished 0-3 at the Tom Hay Invitational volleyball tournament at Springfield College on Friday and Saturday.
The Owls lost to Keene State by a 3-1 score on Friday. On Saturday the Owls fell to host Springfield by a 3-0 score, and Eastern Connecticut in a tight 3-2 match.
Against Eastern, Westfield was decisioned, 19-25, 26-24, 22-25, 25-17 and 15-8. Shannon Shea and Casey Howe both pounded out 15 kills in the match, while Courtney Ryan dished out 44 assists.
On Friday night against Keene, Westfield took the second set by a 25-17 score, but Keene prevailed in winning the opening game 25-17, the third 25-22, and the fourth 25-9.
Shea rapped 11 kills with Kendyl Haney adding 10 kills.
Westfield State freshman libero Lizzie Taylor was named to the All Tournament team. She recorded 33 digs in the loss to ECSU and 29 in the match against Keene.
Westfield is now 7-12 on the season. The Owls will look to snap a five match skid when they return to conference action on Tuesday night at Worcester State.
