Louise S. Zito

Nokomis, FL – Louise S Zito, 91, of Fair Winds Village in Nokomis, FL died at home on Saturday, January 21, 2017.  She was born on March 1, 1925 in Passaic, NJ to Louis and Mary Schneider.  She was a 1943 graduate of Passaic High School.

On May 26, 1945 she married Alfred (Fred) Zito.  They had seven children, raising them in Passaic, NJ, Springfield, MA and in 1957, Westfield, MA. Here she lived for 35 years, holding various bookkeeping and accounting positions as she raised her children.  She retired as treasurer from Western Mass. Hospital.

After retiring, they became snowbirds, sharing time between Nokomis, FL and Littleton, MA.  Louise and Fred were founding members of the Nokomis Beach “Hang Loose” gang. Here they made many friends, who also loved the beach, and their weekly pot luck dinners.

Louise was a communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church in Westfield, St Anne’s Parish in Littleton, MA and the Epiphany Cathedral in Venice, FL.  She was active in the Rosary Sodality in both MA churches and worked in the gift shop at the Epiphany Cathedral.  She also was a prayer partner with elementary school children.

She is preceded in death by her husband (of 64 years), Fred, her brothers William, Alden and Edwin Schneider, her sister, Sister Ann Joachim Schneider, and two grandchildren, Christopher Randall Zito and Kristin Rose Falk.

Louise is survived by her seven children; Robert Zito and his wife Maria of Somers, CT; Randall Zito and his wife Kim of Nokomis, FL; Joan Zito of Loudon, NH; Paul Zito and his wife Jenni of San Diego, CA; Mary Louise Falk and her husband Walter of Nokomis, FL; David Zito and his wife Emilie of Charleston, SC; and Geoffrey Zito and his wife Kimberly of Charlestown, RI; sixteen grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
