Gour blasts 2 HRs, records 8 Ks

WESTFIELD – The only question when it comes to the Westfield High School softball team is whether the Bombers are hotter than the summer-like sun.
Westfield won its eighth game in 10 tries this season, blowing out Minnechaug 12-0 in five innings Wednesday. The Bombers have outscored the competition 95-7 in their eight victories. Their only losses have come against the Hampshire Red Raiders, 13-12 and 12-7.
Westfield High School senior softball pitcher Erin Gour was the latest hero to emerge for the Bombers. Gour tossed a one-hitter, striking out eight batters but that was not all. She hit not one, but two homers, finishing 2-for-4 at the plate with two runs and three RBIs.
Gour was not alone in her effort.
Emma LaPoint (2-for-3, double, 2 runs, RBI), Moja Premny (2-for-3, walk, run, 2 RBIs), and Carina Franco (2-for-4, double, run, 2 RBIs) each had two hits apiece for Westfield.
Westfield gets one more shot at taking down the Red Raiders June 15 at Hampshire Regional High School. First pitch is at 4 p.m.

St. Mary’s came away with a victory behind the stellar individual play from sophomore Catherine Seklecki and freshman Brooke Piziak, and a solid effort from doubles pair, Jessica Armstrong, a ninth grader, and Elianna Umana Kimura, an eighth grader.

Piziak fell behind early in the first set of her match but battled back to even the set at 6-6 before losing the tiebreaker 7-6. She held on to her momentum and won the next set to even the score.
