The Westfield YMCA Gymnastics Program attended the 2015 YMCA MA/NH State Gymnastics Championships, April 17-19. Teams from YMCA’s across Massachusetts & New Hampshire attended, competing against gymnasts in Levels 2-9 and Xcel Levels. All gymnasts were required to qualify during the course of the regular season in order to be eligible to compete at this Championship meet.
The Level 7s, 8s & 9s competed on April 17. In the age 13 & up age group, Level 7, Miranda Wozniak placed 9th on vault and floor. In the same age group, Avery Farquharson placed 6th on vault and placed 2nd on floor scoring an 8.975. Level 9 and graduating senior, Samantha Dame placed 4th on beam in her age group in her last State Championship competing for the YMCA gymnastics team.
On April 18, the Level 4 Team competed. Rylee Altieri placed 8th on vault in the 10 year old age group. Nicole Marek placed 8th on floor in the 12 & older age group. Julia Maryanski placed 8th on vault and 4th on floor. Sierra Moulton placed on all 4 events including 3rd place on bars and floor and placed 5th all-around in 12 year old & up age group.
Level 5, Lindsey Jacobs placed 4th on floor and vault. Laura DelMonte placed 6th on vault. Xcel Gold, Melanie Katykhin placed 8th on vault and bars.
Level 3, Teagan Sullivan placed 7th on floor with a 9.225 and 6th on bars with an 8.9. Teammate, Abbey Hutchison placed 7th on bars with her best bar routine of the season.
The Level 2 Team had an amazing State Championships placing 2nd as a team.
Contributing to the Level 2 team score was Madison Koziol in the 8 to 9 year old age group. She placed 8th on vault, 10th on bars and 3rd on floor with a 9.0. Teammate, Makayla Rivera placed 9th on bars, 6th on vault, 2nd on beam, and 5th all-around. Makayla was also the State Floor Champion, placing 1st with a 9.25. Olivia Irving, in the same age group placed 7th on bars, 6th on beam, 4th on floor and 3rd on vault. She was placed 3rd all-around with a 36.05. Hannah Keeney had an amazing meet, placing 4th on beam with a 9.3, 2nd on floor and bars and she was the State vault and all-around Champion placing first with a 36.9.
