HUNTINGTON – Shane Mastello notched a double-double, scoring a career high 25 points and grabbing 14 rebounds to lead the Gateway Regional High School boys’ basketball team over Pathfinder, 68-36, Tuesday night at the Gator Pit.
Another Gator, Brad Moreau, scored 19 points, a career high. Moreau was also solid on the boards, hauling in 10 rebounds. Pete Kowal chipped in 10 points.
Gateway limited Pathfinder’s Andrew Roman, who scored 27 points a night earlier, to just 12 Tuesday. The Pioneers had just one other player score in double digits at 12.
It’s Purple’s night
Holyoke 76, Westfield 65
John O’Brien (18 points) and Brandon Huckins (16) combined for 34 points to lead Westfield on the road.
Holyoke Purple Knights’ Jordan Nelson scored a game-high 30 points.
Rams hit road block
Monson 58, Southwick 51
Hunter Iglesias (15 points), Nick Moccio (13), and Ryan LeClair (12) each reached double-digits in the scoring column for Southwick.
Malyk Holmes led Monson with 15 points, Badu Abdul-Wadud finished with 13, and Kyle Vedovelli had 11.
A big second-quarter from Monson in the second quarter – the Mustangs outscored Southwick 22-12 in that frame – proved to be the difference. The Rams cut their deficit to four points heading into the final quarter.
Franklin cages Tigers
Franklin Tech 56, Westfield Technical Academy 46
Franklin Tech outscored Westfield Tech by 15 points over the final two quarters to win at home.
Colin Gould led Franklin with 19, Zach Korpiewski had 15, and C.J. Daignault had 10. Matt Wood and Tyler Franch each scored 11 points apiece, and Mark Klyuchits chipped in with 10.
