HARRISVILLE, R.I. – Westfield State sophomore forward Cody Campbell-Rich (Ridgecrest, Calif.) tallied a pair of goals to lead Westfield State to a 3-1 win over 12th-ranked Nichols College in a non-conference ice hockey game at the Harris Rink on Saturday.
The win for Westfield was their first over the Bison since 1979, though Westfield has a 2-4-2 all-time mark against Nichols.
Campbell-Rich got the first two markers of the game, the first coming at 10:06 of the first period with assists from Colby Daniels (Leask, Sask.) and Nik Passero (Fort Erie, Ont.). Rich’s second tally proved to be the game winner at 5:53 of the second, again with a assist from Daniels.
Westfield extended the lead to 3-0 on Roman Pfennings (Grefath, Ger.) goal at 7:55 of the third period.
Westfield got 22 saves from junior netminder Jonathan LoParco (Vaughn, Ont.) to preserve the win. Nichols lone goal came from Scott Cuthell with 3:26 left in regulation to cut the lead to 3-1.
Alex Larson stopped 19 shots for the Bison.
Westfield improves to 9-4 on the season with the win, while Nichols falls to 10-3. The Bison had entered the game ranked 12th in the nation in NCAA Division III in the US College Hockey Online poll.
