WESTFIELD – The Greater Westfield Babe Ruth Baseball season’s stars came out for one more night, not to brave the cold for a key pinch hit or a strikeout on the mound, but to glove a few more accolades.
Team and individual honors were bestowed upon a select few at the End of Season Awards Night Tuesday at Westfield High School.
League vice president Scott LaBombard recognized Berkshire Insurance Group for winning the regular season title and claiming the Dan Welch City Cup.
Jake LaBombard received the Most Valuable Trophy, and Brennan Jarvis was presented with the Scott McClenna Award, which is typically given to a player who shows good sportsmanship, perseverance, ability, teamwork, and positive attitude.
The award night comes at time when the league is gearing up for the Babe Ruth Baseball 13-Year-Old World Series set to take place at Bullens Field. The Whip City hosted its first World Series in 2016 when the country’s top 14-year-old Ruthers played for the ultimate prize.
Event organizers have already begun planning for the ’18 tournament, which also occurs during the city’s 350th anniversary year.
