SOUTHWICK – Chris Sisco scored 17 points on three 3-pointers, and Logan Gerry added 11 points as Monson handed Southwick its third straight loss, 50-38, following a 4-2 start to the season.
Monson raced out to an early double-digit lead before Southwick rallied to it 14-all heading into the second quarter. The Mustangs outscored the Rams 36-14 over the final three quarters.
“It’s hard to win a boys varsity basketball game scoring 38 points,” Southwick coach Peter Fiorentino said.
Devin Parrow led Southwick (4-5, 1-2) with 10 points. Rams’ Connor Roy scored seven, and Evan Clarke and Dan Scharmann had six apiece.
“I thought we matched the intensity and energy of Monson,” coach Fiorentino said. “I thought we played as well as Monson. They just made more shots.”
Southwick will attempt to end its three-game skid Monday at Renaissance. Tip-off is at 7 p.m.
“I’m hoping we can figure it out,” coach Fiorentino said. “We need to find a way in the next couple of days to start shooting baskets in practice.”
Cards deal Bombers narrow defeat
Pope Francis 44, Westfield 42
Westfield delivered a smothering defensive effort, holding Pope Francis’s to scorer of the day, Gabriel James, to just 12 points.
Tony Torres led Westfield with 14 points.
“I’m very proud of the way we played defense,” Westfield coach Josh Balestracci said. “We’re showing great progress. We need to work at the other end of the court now.”
Porter nets 36
Pioneer Valley Christian Academy 68, St. Mary’s 44
Matt Porter scored a game-high 36 points for PVCA, which used a 23-5 third quarter run to outlast St. Mary’s.
“The third quarter was really the truth,” St. Mary’s coach Joe Molta said. “That was the difference. …We just ran out of gas. I thought it was a nice effort.”
Luke Willenborg led St. Mary’s with 17 points. Brady Collins and Mike Pepe finished with 13 and 10, respectively, for the Saints, who were playing short-handed.
Bush leads Tigers
McCann Tech 61, Westfield Technical Academy 32
Josh Bush scored a team-high 15 points in a game that Westfield Technical Academy boys basketball head coach Kyle Dulude said “doesn’t represent how well we did play.”
Westfield Tech suffered a scary injury early on that changed the atmosphere.
“We gathered our bearings and battled all night,” coach Dulude said. “We saw some good things from our underclassmen.”
All 12 players received playing time for Westfield Tech. Tigers’ Jordan Otero and Brody Zabielski finished with four points apiece. Four others each had a basket.
“Our inexperience got to us in the end,” coach Dulude said.

Bombers shut out Spartans
Westfield 5, East Longmeadow 0
Westfield ended a two-game slide with a dominant effort on Thursday night on the road at the Olympia.
Moorhouse and Bussell each put together 3-point nights, Carmelo and Webster delivered solid defensive efforts, and Czarnecki made 20 saves for a shutout.
