WESTFIELD-A unique opportunity to engage with community members will be offered for 10 weeks this fall at the Westfield Athenaeum.
The new offering, a Cross Generational Spanish Conversation Group, begins Sept. 7 and runs every Saturday through Nov. 9 in the Elizabeth Reed Room.
“This program is a way for people in the community to speak and learn Spanish together in a casual environment,” said Becky Blackburn, public services librarian.
Each gathering is planned from 10 – 11 a.m., led by Athenaeum staff including Jose Roman who works in the Boys and Girls Library.
“While the curriculum is still in process, the idea is for all members of the community to participate no matter what their age,” said Blackburn.
Each session is free and open to families and individuals who would like to learn or practice speaking Spanish.
“No registration is required,” said Blackburn, adding, “it is drop in.”
Blackburn noted the goal of the new group is to encourage learning and speaking Spanish “in our community.”
“It’s not a class,” said Blackburn. “It’s just people getting together and talking about whatever. It is something that will probably develop organically from the people attending.”
All ages and all language levels are encouraged to participate, added Blackburn.
