WESTFIELD – At-large City Councilor Dan Allie formally announced he is seeking the Westfield state representative seat.
Allie, chairman of the Westfield Republican Committee, made the announcement at the Feb. 15 Lincoln Day Brunch at East Mountain Country Club that he has pulled nomination papers for the November election.
Currently, the seat is held by John C. Velis, who is running in a special election on March 31 for State Senator, Second Hampden and Hampshire, the seat formerly held by Mayor Donald F. Humason, Jr. Also seeking the Senate seat is John Cain of Southwick.
“I’ve enjoyed serving the people of Westfield as a city councilor,“ Allie said, adding that he’s worked hard to listen to the concerns of residents. Allie is currently serving his fourth term as city councilor.
“A lot of issues that we deal with locally are affected by what goes on at the state level, and I would like to have the opportunity to do that as well,” he said.
Allie, an independent graphic artist and printer who works out of Tiger Press in West Springfield, said if elected, he would probably continue to work as a graphic designer, which he has done for decades.
“As long as I have access to people, equipment and a computer; and can still maintain printing quality and meet people’s needs,” he said.
Allie said he would make a more formal announcement on his candidacy in the coming weeks.
Other candidates running for seats in state offices were recognized at the Lincoln Day Brunch by Humason. They included Kelly Pease, Nicholas Boldyga, and John Harding for state representatives; Cain, and John Milligan for political director, Mass GOP.
