WESTFIELD – Last year’s regional champions, the Westfield Babe Ruth 13-Year-Old All-Stars, failed to win the state championship but erased that bad taste with a memorable run for the ages. Westfield qualified for the regionals thanks to hosting the tournament – host teams are guaranteed a spot in their tournaments regardless of record – and took care of business from there on out.
This year, first-year manager Troy St. Pierre wants to send a message to the region and beyond by winning his way to the top. In other words, NO FREE RIDE.
The Westfield 14s (last year’s 13-year-old World Series representatives) have already dispatched its opponents 6-5 in 11 innings, and 11-0.
“We want to win this,” said St. Pierre, who made last-minute preparations Monday night prior to Tuesday’s semifinal against Pittsfield at Leominster’s Little League Field. “It’s going to be an exciting game.”
Pittsfield defeated Westfield for the state championship after the Whip City’s 13s forfeited a co-champ title for the winner-take-all second game.
The highly-anticipated rematch will begin at 7 p.m.
