WESTFIELD – Apparently somebody was confused and left the head of a goat on Neck Road…
About 10:30 p.m. Saturday an auxiliary police officer reported that a passerby had told him that a goat’s head had been nailed to a utility pole on Neck Road.
Officer Richard Mazza investigated the report and found that horns were protruding from a plastic bag that was hanging from a limb of bush near the pole. Officer Harry Sienkiewicz and community policing officer Brian Freeman joined him and Det. Sgt. Ray Manos said he was called out to check on the possibility that there might be a ritualistic aspect to the discovery.
Manos said that he does not believe there was any occult connection with the head and said he thought it had just been discarded there.
Freeman reported that a patrol officer told him that he had seen the bag hanging in the bushes for about two weeks but, until the bag weathered, the horns were not noticeable.
“I can’t even imagine why anyone would do that” Freeman said and went on to say “I don’t know why it’s there. I wish it wasn’t.”
“I don’t know what happened to the rest of the goat” Freeman said.
