AGAWAM – The Agawam High School field hockey team rallied for two unanswered goals to defeat Westfield 2-1 Monday.
Agawam’s Megan Cecchi had a fantastic lift right into the goal to tie the game in the first half, and Alexis Vecchiarelli scored a beautiful game-winning goal off a pass from Taylor McCushing.
Lexi Minicucci notched the lone Westfield goal, scoring in the first five minutes off a penalty corner. Mackenzie Millikan earned the assist.
“I’m proud of the girls,” Westfield coach Karen Gomez said. “It was a very intense game. It felt like a tournament game. Both teams really turned it up. We were conditioned; we just couldn’t capitalize.”
Agawam goalie Jordyn Conway had a fantastic outing in the cage, knocking down six saves. Westfield keeper Karly Mastello finished with eight.
