WESTFIELD – Over the past decade, Westfield High School volleyball coach Tyler Wingate created a winning culture on the boys’ team. Several championships later, that vibe is beginning to emanate from the girls’ program as well.
After suffering through a lengthy postseason drought, the Westfield girls volleyball team earned its second straight tournament berth with a convincing sweep of Wahconah Saturday. The Bombers won 25-4, 25-17, 25-22 to improve to 9-2 overall, 3-0 Western Division.
Catherine Jones and Madison Robitaille delivered six and five kills, respectively; Brigid Moriarty contributed 12 assists and two aces; Tetyana Shvyryd collected three kills, seven aces, and eight digs; Shelby Rowell landed three aces.
Having now qualified for the postseason, Westfield will take aim at improving its tournament seed. The Bombers next host Agawam Tuesday at 6:15 p.m.
