WESTFIELD – The Westfield High School softball team continued its torrid pace.
Westfield blanked Chicopee 12-0 in six innings Wednesday to improve to 9-0. The unbeaten Bombers are now just one win away from securing a postseason berth with still the second-half schedule remaining.
Sarah McNerney dominated on the mound for Westfield. The Bombers’ pitcher tossed a two-hitter, recording 14 strikeouts. She walked two.
Kate Puza (2-for-2, 4 RBIs), Maddy Atkocaitis (2-3, 2 RBIs), Syd Ezold (2-4, 2 RBIs), Lexi Minicucci (2-3, RBI), Jess Pratt (2-4, RBI), Emily Chrzanowski (2-4), Kate Menard (hit, RBI), Karly Mastello (hit), McNerney (hit), and Jules Sharon (hit) contributed to the Westfield hit parade.
Sharon also made a spectacular catch in right field, getting turned around on a solid blast from Raven Fournier (2 hits), and recovering in time – all the while fighting off the sun – to make the over-the-head grab.
