Bombers blow past Hurricanes

WESTFIELD – The Westfield High School girls lacrosse team beat the rain … and the Amherst Hurricanes.
Westfield racked up an 11-0 first-half lead, cruising to a 16-1 win over visiting Amherst Tuesday at Roots Athletics Center.

The list of contributors was lengthy with nine different goal scorers getting involved for Westfield (6-4, 3-1).
Kylie Buchanan (3 goals, 1 assist) and Jordan Kowalski (2 goals, 3 assists) led the Westfield attack. Bombers’ Lara Finnie, Emma Metcalf, and Sam Kaubris finished with 2 goals and one assist apiece.
Westfield returns to action Thursday against West Springfield at Clarke Field at 7 p.m.

Gateway 13, Westfield Technical Academy 1 (6 inn.)
Gateway exploded for 10 runs in the first inning of a blowout victory at home.
Nicole Hannigan, Ava Auclair, Kaitlynn Quinn, and Emma Bean-Barrlow led Gateway with two hits apiece. Hannigan and Quinn each tripled.
Hannigan recorded six Ks on the mound.
Arianna Levere and Taylor Parker each had two hits for Westfield Technical Academy. Levere, Leilani Marsh, and Taylor Nelson all doubled.
