Bombers bounce back

WESTFIELD – The Westfield Bombers rebounded from an 0-1 start with a pair of second-half goals to shut out the Northampton Blue Devils on the road in a high school boys soccer game Tuesday, 2-0.
Jimmy Hagan and Jack DeMarinis scored for Westfield.
Hagan crashed hard on a corner kick, driving a rebound into the back of the net in the 46th minute.
With about 15 minutes remaining, R.J. Piper delivered a cross pass to Jack DeMarinis, who finished off the scoring play. The Northampton keeper misplayed the ball, and DeMarinis buried it.
Mike Lurgio (2 saves) recorded a save in net for Westfield (1-1), which lost its season opener to Pittsfield 4-0.

GIRLS SOCCER
Lussier lifts Saints
St. Mary’s 3, Franklin Tech 2

St. Mary’s opened their 2018 campaign with a thrilling home win.
Sophomore Chloe Lussier had a hand in all three goals, scoring twice and assisting on freshman Allie Goodreau’s score. Goodreau also had a goal.
Amelia Willenborg was solid net for St. Mary’s, finishing with seven saves.

Rams shut out Hurricanes
Southwick 3, Amherst 0

Autumn Waitt scored two goals and Karli Langan had one as Southwick silenced Amherst. Jordyn Demyon, Kayla Russ, and Emily Giancola each had one assist for the Rams.
Southwick goalie Hannah Gerrish (3 saves) earned a shutout.

Bryant, Thompson, Carter save 15
Pathfinder 7, Westfield Technical Academy 0

Aubrey Bryant (7 saves), Brooke Thompson (5), and ninth grader Caitlen Carter (3) combined for 15 Westfield Tech saves.

CROSS COUNTRY
Nearly Towers above all
Gateway 25, Westfield Technical Academy 38; Greenfield 16, Gateway 43; Greenfield 17, Westfield Technical Academy 50

Greenfield swept the top three spots as Tyssen LaBombard (21:41), Andy Bostrom (22:06), and Eli Stathis (22:35) finished first, second, and third respectively for the Green Wave.
Westfield Tech’s Ed Towers finished fourth with a time of 23:03, followed by Greenfield’s Aaron Do (23:11) and Gateway’s David Vasilchenko (23:51). Gators’ Jared Small (24:06) placed eighth, and teammate Patrick Millen (24:07) was ninth (24:07).

FIELD HOCKEY
Rams chase Indians
Southwick 3, Turners Falls 1

Three different players (Alyssa Pompi, Emily Martin, and eighth grader Marisa Coviello) scored to lead Southwick to a road victory. Sydney Gorman and Emily Martin assisted.
Southwick goalie Clare Stratton made 11 saves.
In JV action Southwick fell 5-0. Rams’ goalie Molly Lafayette finished with 14 saves.

Becellio, Frontier down WHS
Frontier 7, Westfield 0

Olivia Becellio notched a hat trick, Lilly Spencher scored two goals, and Skyla Burniske and Ella Flenders combined for four saves in Frontier’s shutout victory.
Morgan Anjos played well defensively for Westfield (0-2). Bombers’ Lindsey Brown finished with 12 saves.

St. Mary’s Luke Willenborg shot a match-low 42 at Tekoa Country Club.

Jack Hogan shot a team-best 1-over-36 for Westfield (2-1).

Rams sweep
Southwick def. Renaissance 25-17, 25-18, 25-17

Allie Methe (6 digs, 9 aces), Vicky Burkovskiy (1 dig, 8 aces, 1 assist, 2 blocks), and Kaitlyn Haseltine (1 dig, 4 aces, 3 kills, 2 assists) fueled Southwick’s sweep.

JV GIRLS SOCCER
Southwick 8, Amherst 2

Despite a slow first half, having to come from behind twice, Southwick came through in the second half.
Southwick rallied from a 2-1 deficit at the half by scoring seven unanswered goals.
Brooke Bellows scored four goals and Zoe Stevenson, Amanda Belliveau, Marissa Langan, and Morgan McCasland scored one apiece.
McCasland also finished with three assists, Belliveau had two, and Alivia Glynn had one.
Sydney Demyon and Madison Landis each had a save for Southwick (1-1).
