Bombers bounce back

WESTFIELD – Alexa Morin notched a double-double, and the Westfield Bombers rebounded from an opening night loss in Division 1 high school girls’ basketball with a resounding 51-28 win over the visiting Amherst Hurricanes Tuesday night.
Morin scored 18 points and hauled down 13 rebounds.
It was a sharp contrast from the opener which Central dominated, and won by a 15-point margin.
Westfield (1-1) will have six days to savor the victory before returning to action Tues., Dec. 23 at Northampton High School. Tip-off is at 7 p.m.

GIRLS’ HOOPS
Holyoke Catholic 58, St. Mary 17
Kyra Robbins scored a game-high 20 points, and Holyoke Catholic cruised in a high school girls’ varsity basketball opener Monday.
Lauren Chapdelaine, Francesca DePergola, and Alissa Easton scored three points apiece for St. Mary. Saints’ Marissa Hannoush, Alison Stanlewicz, and Karissa Foley each had two, and Elisa Kosinski and Tessa Kielbasa tallied a point apiece.

Longtin’s Hat Trick Sinks Saints
Chicopee 6, St. Mary 1
Devan Longtin netted a hat trick (3 goals), including two in the first period, and an assist to lead Chicopee past St. Mary at Amelia Park Ice Arena Tuesday night.
Chicopee skated out to a 4-0 lead before Ashton Bourbonnais scored for St. Mary (1-2). Sean Gezotis assisted on the play.
Jon Santos finished with 26 saves in net for Chicopee. St. Mary goalie Matt Brady had 23.
