Bombers deal Cards loss

WESTFIELD – Cam Theriault went on a tear, compiling six points (4 goals, 2 assists) and the Westfield High School boys lacrosse team dealt the Pope Francis Cardinals a 13-2 defeat Tuesday at Roots Athletic Center.
Will Cameron finished with three goals and one assist for Westfield. Bombers’ Nick Clausen and Christian Nalepinski tallied two goals apiece. Ryan Metcalf had three assists, Dan Antonellis and Matt Bacon each notched a goal, and Tyler Shrewsbury had an assist.
Westfield goalie Nick Mee collected eight saves.
Gavin Carzello, Kris Meneses and Aidan Boyle combined for a strong defensive effort.

James Pavlyuk (20 kills, 7 digs), Mike Bowen (3 assists, 3 aces, 9 digs), Riley Coughlin (6 kills, 3 blocks), Alex Robitaille (2 aces, 9 digs) and Eric Yurtuc (34 assists, 7 digs) fueled Westfield’s latest victory. The Bombers improved to 3-1 overall, 3-0 North.

Saints return to action following long absence
St. Mary’s 12, Hampden Charter School of Science 0 (3 inn., rain)

After more than a decade without a softball program, St. Mary’s returned to action in dramatic fashion.
St. Mary’s exploded with five runs in the first inning, thanks to key hits from Audrey Burke, Paige Hutkoski, and Lauren Campbell. Saints’ pitcher Anna Kosinski struck out seven batters and walked none in three innings before the game was called due to rain.
