WESTFIELD – The Westfield High School girls soccer team turned a mountain into a molehill.
Westfield High School girls soccer junior forward Cait Bean had a hand in three scores, scoring two goals and delivering one assist in the Bombers’ 4-0 shutout of Monument Mountain Monday at Roots Field.
Bean got things started for Westfield (13-2-2) with the Bombers’ first score. The junior forward was on the receiving end of a beautiful pass from Chandler Pedolzky. Bean took the pass from Pedolzky and hammered home a goal from in close in the 11th minute.
Westfield kept right at in the first half.
With 23:26 left on the first-half clock, Kaela Mochak converted a pass from Maggie Prystowski for a 2-0 lead. Mochak squeezed a kick in between a small clump of Monument Mountain defenders, and scored falling down.
In the final minute of the half, Bean scored again. This time the pass came from Mackenzie Liptak.
“We started off really good,” said Bean, who noted the team’s passing success. “We started off really good.”
And finished fairly strong too.
Mochak tacked on an insurance goal in the second half with 16:21 remaining. Bean assisted.
“The way we’re playing right now,” said a confident Bean, “we’re winning it.”
Westfield High School girls soccer coach Keith Saltmarsh was a bit more non-committal on the team’s postseason chances but did offer up his plans for the team in the days leading up to the tournament.
“We’re trying to ramp it up going into the playoffs,” coach Saltmarsh said. “We need to be productive, and keep everybody healthy.”
Westfield closes out the regular season Wednesday at Natick at 3:45 p.m.

St. Mary’s 1, Putnam 0
“Senior Night” proved to be thrilling as St. Mary’s scored late to prevail at the end. Emma Goodreau scored on an amazing left-footed shot off of a beautiful pass from Macy Woodger for the game’s lone goal.
Amelia Willenborg stood tall in net with six saves to post a shutout.
“I am so proud of all the girls today, most especially our seniors,” St. Mary’s coach Patrick Olearcek said. “Erin Olearcek, Caroline Leahy, and Jess Crosby laid the foundation for this team to make it successful today and for years to come. We went from a few wins a year when they were freshmen/sophomores to 11 last year and now 13 and hopefully more. …To come so far so fast is a credit to their leadership.”
A win or tie Wednesday at Pathfinder will secure a league title for St. Mary’s.

Westfield Technical Academy 1, Pathfinder 1
Christina Mosijchuk scored off a long pass from defender Jordyn Sanders for Westfield Technical Academy. Tigers’ goalie Ari Levere finished with 13 saves.
Westfield Tech recognized seven seniors – captain Leilani Marsh, Kiki Serrano, Sanders, Ashley Torres, Deajah Barbour, Jeika Rios, and Levere – at halftime.
