Bombers rally to 4-1

WESTFIELD – The Westfield wrestling team won a thrilling come-from-behind meet, rallying from a 14-point deficit to upend visiting Holyoke 45-32 Wednesday night.
Westfield trailed 26-12 before reeling off four straight victories, including some truly dominant pins.
Westfield senior captain Vitaliy Borodin started the comeback, pinning Holyoke’s Hilario Peralta in just 18 seconds. At 160, a determined junior wrestler, Nick Clauson won by fall in 1:32 over Will Alicea. Junior Carlito Serrano (182 pounds) followed with a pin of Chris Perez in just nine seconds.
“Serrano just had a look about him tonight,” Westfield coach Chris Malinowski said.
The comeback was complete with junior Cam Foster’s narrow 9-8 win by decision over Jampiel Perez.
Westfield had some early wins to keep them in the match.
Westfield heavyweight Joe Raco, a senior, posted an impressive 49-second pin of Hansel Breton. At 126, senior captain Ed Borodin made quick work of Holyoke’s Ethan McClain, winning by fall in 20 seconds.
Westfield freshman 106-pounder, Colby Clauson continued to impress, despite a loss to Moses Oquendo. At 120, Zack Cernak made his first varsity start for the Bombers. Both Cernak and 132-pound senior Mike Minchala wrestled well.
Westfield (4-1) will next wrestle at Simsbury on Saturday.
