WESTFIELD, SOUTHWICK – It was a tough finish for a pair of local baseball teams as the Westfield and Southwick-Tolland Regional High School baseball teams fell Monday in their respective regular season finales, which actually began earlier in the week.
In Southwick, Palmer continued to build on a 1-0 lead in a game which was postponed Tuesday due to rain. The Panthers took advantage of five Rams’ errors en route to a 7-2 road victory.
“That cost us a bunch of runs,” Southwick coach Tim Karetka said. “We just didn’t play well. …It was just not a good showing for us today.”
Southwick managed just four hits.
In Agawam, the Brownies took a 3-0 lead and never looked back in a 6-3 win over Westfield. Aris Larancuent led the Bombers, going 2-for-4 with an RBI.
While both local teams experienced a rough Memorial Day, there is still time to make amends. Westfield and Southwick, both with records of 11-9 will learn their opponents Tuesday when the tournament seeds are announced. The Bombers play in Division I; the Rams hail from D2.
“Hopefully, we will get it turned around and get back on the right track,” Karetka said.
