LUDLOW – The Westfield and Ludlow High School girls’ basketball games got a bit defensive Tuesday night. The Lions edged the Bombers 31-26.
Westfield fell behind by three points midway through the fourth quarter, but Alyssa Clark drained a 3 with 2:38 remaining to tie the game 25-25.
Alyssa Guyron (8 points) buried a two-point shot to reclaim the lead for Ludlow. Westfield had a chance to tie or take the lead in the final minute, but the Bombers missed a shot from beyond the arc.
Ava Adamopolous (11 points) made four free straight free throws in a 30-second span to seal the game.
Kari Paton (7 points) and Jules Sharon (5) led Westfield.

Palmer 41, Southwick-Tolland 24
Defenses were also on display in this game as neither team scored for the first 3 minutes, 33 seconds. But Palmer built an 8-0 first-quarter lead, and never looked back.
“It was a tough matchup – a crossover (game) – but we got through healthy,” Southwick coach Mike Gill said, “so we’re moving on.”
Lindsay Wilcox led Southwick with nine points. Ashley Shea and Monica Kucienski also played well for the Rams.

HCCS pulled away from a tie in the final two minutes of regulation to send Voc-Tech packing with a loss.
“It was a kind of a heartbreaker,” Voc-Tech coach Kyle Dulude said. “I never like to blame the officials, but they blew some big huge calls in the last two minutes.”
Dulude claimed the referees missed a timeout call they were attempting to make with the game tied, which led to a turnover and a 3-point play for HCCS; a subsequent blown call on a 10-second backcourt violation for the opposition; and, a no call on a borderline intentional foul.
“I can’t believe they missed all three of those in the last two minutes,” he said. “That really kind of broke our backs.”
Voc-Tech also struggled at the foul line, converting only 9-of-28 free throws.
“That hurt us,” the Tigers coach said.
Matt Wood (12 points) and Nelson Roque (11) led Voc-Tech on offense.
