SOUTHWICK – Hungry supporters of the Southwick Police Association and Team Justice Racing raised $1,200 Saturday.
The funds were raised during a pancake breakfast held at Moolicious Farm. Sgt. Kevin Bishop said the event was a lot of fun.
“We had police officers and kids on the racing team serving and cleaning,” said Bishop, who noted that Maple Corner Farm in Granville supplied their own fresh, local syrup for the pancakes.
The funds will be split between the two groups and used by the Police Association to benefit scholarships, families in need, and other charitable programs. Team Justice Racing, a motocross team comprised of police officers and youth, will use the money to support its racing needs.
Bishop, 53, is a racer and team manager for Team Justice Racing. He said the team’s youngest member is eight and the team includes racers of all ages and backgrounds.
“This year we have one team member from Chicopee and one from Springfield and the rest are from Southwick,” he said.
Formed eight years ago, Team Justice Racing participates in competitions throughout New England, from Connecticut all the way up to Maine. Bishop said it’s a great way to help youth stay on track, in more ways than one.
“We really go out and make a difference for these kids,” said Bishop.
“We race from April to October,” adding that this season starts in Southwick on Sunday.
Bishop thanked Moolicious Farm for its support and said in addition to a busy morning at the breakfast, 55 members of the Southwick Police Association joined their brethren in honoring fallen Westfield Police Officer Jose Torres at the inaugural Run Westfield 5k.
“It was a great day,” Bishop said.
