NEW HAMPTON, NH – Westfield State University’s senior Holly Brouillette (Burlington, MA) scored the only goal of the match to lead Plymouth State University 1-0 in a Little East Conference field hockey game Saturday at New Hampton, NH.
13 minutes into the second half, Brouillette was able to score after an assist outside the circle from senior Meg Doherty (Mansfield, Mass.) to lead the Panthers 1-0.
Westfield State defenders junior Delaney Gembis (North Chelmsford, MA), senior Alexa Whitney (Athol, MA), junior Rachel Bunce (East Dennis, MA) played strong defensively for the Owls.
Westfield’s goalkeeper senior Megan Fountaine (Scituate, MA) had ten saves in the win for her sixth shutout of the year.
Plymouth’s goalkeeper junior Alivia Bates (Pennsauken, NJ) had two saves for the Panthers.
Coming into the game, the Panthers and the Owls were tied for third place in the league. The Owls clinched third place and Plymouth State dropped to fifth place.
Westfield State improves to 11-4 on the season and 7-3 in conference play. Plymouth State is now 7-5 on the season and 6-4 in conference play.
Westfield State will host Worcester State in conference action on Friday October 21st at 7:00pm.
