Brownies rally past WHS

WESTFIELD – Agawam rallied from an early deficit to defeat host Westfield 2-1 in high school girls’ soccer game Friday.
Sarah Carron scored two goals to lift the Brownies on the road.
Westfield led from the outset on a penalty kick from Erin McDermott midway through the first half. A short time later, McDermott had another PK. This time, though, Agawam goalie Jenna Beach guessed right to make the save. She finished with seven stops.
Carron scored the game-tying goal in the 38th minutes, and the game-winner in the second half.
Westfield goalies Jessica Healey and Lindsay Cousins combined for nine saves.

HCSS downs Saints
Hampden Charter 4, St. Mary 0

Jess Crosby and Olivia White made some great runs up front; Francesca DePergola made some solid saves in net; and Brianna Turrini, Sam Mancino, and Steph Allen limited Hampden Charter’s breakaways in another tough loss.
“Everyone really stepped up today despite having no subs,” St. Mary coach Andy Lussier said. “I am proud of their play and their continued improvement. Their confidence is improving and there are wins in our future. I’ll state again that this team is better than their record shows.”

Diana Solokhina finished with 27 saves in net for Westfield Tech.

GYMNASTICS
Kotfila, Hagan lift Bombers
Westfield, 130.4; Chicopee Comp, 124.65; Agawam 121.7

Westfield posted its 150th and 151st victories with superb efforts from gymnasts Emma Kotfila (1st all around, 33.675) and Mairead Hagan (2nd all around, 33.075).
Hagan placed first on the vault (8.30) and balance beam (8.35), and second on the uneven bars (8.375). Kotfila won gold on the bars (8.70) and on her floor routine (8.6), and finished second on vault (8.275). She was also fourth on the beam (8.20).
Other notable performers included: Kendall Neidig (3rd/bars/8.0), Avery Farquharson (5th/beam/8.15), and Carly Thayer (5th/floor/8.25).

BOYS’ SOCCER
Bombers silence Gators
Westfield 3, Gateway 0

Ryan Prenosil, Dante White, and Sam Winiarski scored one goal apiece to lead Westfield on the road.
Ian Saltmarsh (5 saves) earned a shutout in net for the Bombers.
Gateway goalies Brady Parker and Shane Mastello collected four saves apiece. The tournament-bound Gators fell to 8-6-3.

“Everyone got equal playing time and it was a good team effort,” said Westfield Tech coach Kyle Dulude, whose team is gearing up for another postseason run.

FOOTBALL
Golden Eagles rush past Bombers
Central 40, Westfield 13

Tyreque Estrada-Crapps rushed for 133 yards and three touchdowns to propel Central on the road Friday night at Bullens Field.
Westfield quarterback Austin St. Pierre completed 16-of-27 passes for 112 yards and a touchdown, and Bombers’ running back Wilton Royal scored on a touchdown rush.

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL
Golden Eagles sweep
Central def. Southwick, 25-13, 25-19, 25-22

Angela Davis (8 kills, 3 blocks, 4 digs), Makenna Gordon (3 aces, 3 kills, 2 blocks, 7 digs), Sierra King (1 ace, 3 kills, 3 assists), and Jeyrian Hernandez (13 service points, 3 kills, 6 digs) helped propel Central past host Southwick.
Caroline Methe had a nice overall game for the Rams (9 assists, 5 aces, 6 digs), Ahsley Consolini delivered four kills, and Olivia Diamond finished with 12 digs.

FIELD HOCKEY
Green Wave tops Rams
Greenfield 4, Southwick 1

Raegan Hickey scored two goals, and Kelsey Roberts finished with one goal and one assist to lead Greenfield to a road victory.
Aidan Bourbonnais scored the lone goal for Southwick.
