WESTFIELD – The Westfield High School girls’ basketball team caged a team of Lions. In the process, they managed to snare their first win in the process.
Leighanne Sullivan scored a game-high nine points, Alexis Wood chipped in seven, and three others each netted six to help the Bombers forge their first victory of the 2015-16 regular season, a 39-28 home win over the Ludlow Lions Thursday night.
Katherine Knapik, Alyssa Manna, and Alexa Morin finished with six points apiece for Westfield.
The Bombers improved to 1-10 overall.

Gators chomp Saints
Gateway 56, St. Mary 11
Shane Mastello (17 points) and Brad Moreau (16) combined for 33 of Gateway’s 56 points for the big road victory at Westfield Middle School South.
Nick Ilnicki led St. Mary with six points.
Panthers chase Rams
Palmer 67, Southwick 34
Palmer opened the game on a 20-0 run, led 28-2 after the first quarter, and cruised at home. Three players scored in double digits – Matt Niemczura (21 points), Ryan McCarthy (12), Jack Cookish (11) – for the Panthers.
It was a cold start for Southwick, which went more than five minutes without a basket to begin the game. Rams’ Billy Strain scored the team’s first points of the game with two made free throws with 2:37 remaining in the opening quarter.
Southwick’s Ryan LeClair scored a team-high 13 points.
