Cardin places fourth in Louisville

LOUISVILLE, KY – Westfield State junior Jessie Cardin placed fourth at the 2016 Greater Louisville Cross Country Classic Collegiate Women’s Silver Race at E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park in Louisville, Ky., on Saturday, October 1.

Cardin covered the 6k course in a time of 21:31.00, finishing about 35 seconds behind race winner Amy Regan from Stevens Institute of Technology (N.J.). Westfield State senior Ashley Monahan finished in 128th place in a time of 24:32.18.
The race featured 39 teams and 80 individual runners with 332 total participants as part of a day long festival of races held on the course which will host the 2016 NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships in November. Cardin, who finished 20th at the NCAA championships last year, and Monahan will be contenders to qualify for the big race. Westfield State will host the NCAA regional qualifier at Stanley Park in November.
Cardin, Monahan and both the Westfield State men’s and women’s cross country teams will compete in Westfield next weekend, as WSU plays host to the James Earley Invitational at Stanley Park. – Courtesy of Westfield State University Sports
