Clancy scores twice for WSU

FRAMINGHAM – The Framingham State men’s ice hockey dropped a Massachusetts Athletic Collegiate Athletic Conference matchup to visiting Westfield State 6-1 Saturday afternoon in Framingham. The win moves the Owls to 11-7 and 6-5 in the MASCAC. The Rams fall to 3-12-1 and 2-7-1 in the league.
The Owls took the lead early in the 1st period when Dalton Jay (Hamilton, ON) caused a turnover on the Owls end and beat the Rams goalie. The visitors added two more late in the 1st stanza, in the 18th minute Nik Passero (Fort Erie, ON) scored and just 49 seconds later Aaron Clancy found the back of the cage to send the Owls to the break leading 3-0.
Westfield extended their lead to 4-0 when Clancy scored in the second minute of the 2nd period followed up by a Mason Wade (Bellingham, Mass.) a little over halfway through the period.
The Rams got on the board in the final minute of the 2nd period when Tyler Colacchio (Bellingham, Mass.) put one home for the hosts.
Westfield scored again in the 11th minute of the 3rd period this time off the stick of Nik Passero to reach the final margin of 6-1.
Jonathan LoParco (Vaughan, ON) made 38 saves in the win for the Owls. Adam Calabrese (Philadelphia, PA) made 17 stops in 21minutes before giving way to Alessio Muggli (Rueti, Switzerland) who turned away 23 shots.
Neither team was able to convert on the power-play. The Rams were 0-for-6 while the Owls were 0-for-4.
The Rams return to the ice on Thursday, January 28th when they travel to Salem State for MASCAC action. The Owls host Plymouth State on Saturday, January 30th.
