WESTFIELD – The Northampton and Amherst High boys’ cross country teams dominated the field at Saturday’s Pioneer Valley Interscholastic Athletic Conference, and Westfield senior Ben Doiron recorded the best finish locally as racers geared up for next week’s championship run.
Northampton’s Aidan Gilson won the race at Stanley Park in 15:47.23, besting Amherst’s Connor Evans (15:48.81) by a full second. The Blue Devils claimed four of the top 10 finishes, and the Hurricanes took three.
Doiron finished in fifth place with a time of 16:20.16. The Bombers’ next best finisher was Cheyenne Grabiec in 16:42.14.
Davis Britland (45th overall, 17:48.01) and Chris Roy (99th, 18:52.06) finished first for Gateway and Southwick, respectively.
GIRLS’ RESULTS: Agawam’s Megan Dustin finished first in the girls’ race in 18:44.39, and Northampton swept the Nos. 2-4 spots with Mariel Lutz (19:08.01), Erica Dean (19:37.21), and Margaret Mahoney (19:38.09) leading the way.
Southwick freshman Reece Couture finished 44th overall (21:05.16).
