Falcons down Bombers

WESTFIELD – Minnechaug’s Gabrielle Ward scored the only goal of the game, and the Falcons’ field hockey team held off a hard-charging Westfield Bombers’ unit for a 1-0 victory Wednesday in the Whip City.
Ward tallied the goal in the second half.
Minnechaug goalie Samantha Falcone (3 saves) earned a shutout. Westfield keeper Gwen Smith finished with 14 saves.
Westfield fell to 5-7-2 overall, 1-4 league. The Bombers, who must win two of their final three game and at least tie in another to qualify for the postseason, return to action Monday at Longmeadow. Game time is 4 p.m.

Jack Hogan and Ryan Towle each shot a 39 to lead Valley League champion Westfield (11-6) at Tekoa Country Club. The Bombers will now make a run at the Western Massachusetts crown Monday at The Ranch in Southwick, beginning at 10 a.m.

Rams fall short
Putnam def. Southwick, 25-15, 24-26, 25-22, 25-21

Angela Pequeso (6 aces, 9 kills, 8 blocks) and Elicia Vazquez (5 aces, 4 kills, 4 digs) helped propel a Putnam victory.
Southwick’s top performers included: McKinley White (2 blocks), Allie Methe (2 kills, 1 ace, 1 assist), Emily Lachtara (11 digs), Bella Deluca (10 digs, 1 ace), Caroline Methe (10 digs, 10 aces, 3 assists), and Chloe Emond (3 aces).

Southwick’s Aelish McGivney and Lydia Kinsman scored one goal apiece. Rams’ Brooke Waitt and Alex Mello each had one assist
Tori Richburg made four saves for Southwick.

JV GIRLS’ SOCCER
Southwick 5, Central 1

Five different Rams – Camryn Hughes, Mikaila Davenport, Shea O’Neill, Jordyn Demyon, and Savannah Leduc – scored in Southwick’s victory. Demyon had two assists, and Hughes had one.
Southwick goalies Hannah Gerrish (9 saves) and Maya Daley (5) put together a winning effort.
