FCBL WEEKEND RECAP: Starfires rally past Navigators

LYNN – Bolstered by a seven-run eighth inning, the Westfield Starfires rallied for a 10-8 come-from-behind victory over the North Shore Navigators Sunday on the road.
North Shore (17-19) led 7-2 heading into the seventh inning before Westfield (17-20) mounted its comeback.
David Matthews (2-for-3, 3 walks, 2 runs), Michael DeMartino (2-for-5, 2 doubles, run), Danny Crossen (2 runs), Mark Coley (2-for-3, walk, run), Alex Rodriguez (2-for-5, double, run, RBI), and Dolan Ocasal (2-for-5, run, 2 RBIs) fueled the latest Starfires’ victory.
Ben Malgeri homered for North Shore.
The Westfield Starfires will close out their season Wednesday at home against the Nashua Silver Knights. Game time at Bullens Field is 6:30 p.m.

Worcester Bravehearts 2, Westfield Starfires 0
Matt Shaw (Maryland), of Brimfield went 3-for-5 with a home run, two runs, and a RBI to lead the Worcester Bravehearts in a shutout of the Westfield Starfires at Bullens Field.
Worcester pitcher Jack Steele tossed six scoreless innings. Steele struck out seven batters and allowed just four hits. He walked one.

Fri., Aug. 14
Westfield Starfires 8, New Britain Bees 1
Drew DeMartino (University of Hartford), of Pittsfield went 2-for-3 with a home run, two runs and a RBI as the Westfield Starfires swatted away the New Britain Bees.
Danny Crossen also had a multi-hit outing for Westfield, going 2-for-4 with a run and three RBIs.
Chase Jeter (Sacred Heart University) spun a gem, scattering six hits and allowing just one run while piling up 12 strikeouts.
