Emergency Response and Crime Report
WESTFIELD
Friday, Feb. 15, 2013
7:03 a.m.; motor vehicle violation, North Elm Street, a patrol officer reports a traffic stop, the vehicle’s registration was found to be expired, the vehicle was towed to the police impound yard;
7:53 a.m.; found property, East Main Street, a person came to the station to surrender a found wallet, the desk officer reports that a message was left for the wallet’s owner;
8:46 a.m.: city ordinance violation, callers reports sidewalks have not been properly cleared on Franklin Street, Cherry Street, White Street, Montgomery Street, Holland Avenue and Washington Street;
9:51 a.m.: motor vehicle violation, Springfield Road, a patrol officer reports a traffic stop, the officer reports the operator’s out-of-state license was expired and a tow was summoned, the officer further reports that a licensed operator came to the scene to take custody of the vehicle and pay the tow operator;
3:22 p.m.: animal complaint, Franklin Street, a caller from the municipal animal shelter reports a male party has taken custody of a stray black Labrador retriever dog on Franklin Street, the responding animal control officer reports the black and white dog was transported to the shelter;
5:42 p.m.: larceny, Southwick Road, a caller from a liquor store reports a shoplifter fled the store, the responding officer reports the store clerk said that a male party entered the store and went to a discount bin near the front of the store where he selected a bottle which he concealed under his clothing and left the store, the officer report the clerk said that a copy of the store’s security video will be provided to the Detective Bureau;
8:19 p.m.: officer wanted, Westfield Vocational-Technical High School, 69 Smith Ave., upper campus, detail officers request a cruiser to assist with the departure of a visiting sporting team as fans are heated, the reporting officer reports the visiting team left without incident;
10:03 p.m.: disturbance, Knollwood Drive, a caller reports hearing a neighbor screaming “Let me in or I will kill you’, the responding officer reports he arrived to find a man locked inside a garage was yelling and banging on a door to the house, the officer reports that the man found a way to open the garage door and the officers immediately took control of the man while they established his bona fides, the man was found to be a resident who appeared to be highly intoxicated and admitted consuming “a six pack”, the shift supervisor was able to contact the female resident who said that she had been asleep throughout the entire episode, a routine check revealed the man to be the subject of an outstanding warrant, Carlos Manuel G. Dias, 44, of 80 Knollwood Drive, was arrested on the 2010 warrant.
