Firefighters extinguish car fire

WESTFIELD- The Westfield Fire Department responded to a car fire on Franklin Avenue late Thursday afternoon.

The fire department received the call for the fire at 6:24 p.m. and it was extinguished within 10 minutes of their arrival, according to Deputy Fire Chief Benjamin Warren.

Warren said the exact cause of the fire was undetermined, but it was not suspicious. The driver reported that he had just parked the car and immediately heard a popping noise and saw smoke coming from the front of the car.

It is highly likely to be mechanical in nature as the car was just being driven,” said Warren.

The vehicle was a 2007 BMW 750T. No injuries were reported in the incident.
