After hiding in the shadows of Tiger Woods for nearly 18 years, Sergio Garcia emerged Sunday with a long-awaited first major title with a Masters victory.
Apparently no one in the greater Whip City area believed it possible.
Everyone failed to correctly choose Garcia as the winner in the latest leg of our “Ultimate Sports Challenge.” Still, two Westfield residents, Kevin Michaud and Jack Pelli were awarded two points apiece for picking second-place finisher, Justin Rose. Michaud emerged the winner after a random drawing.
Following three events (NASCAR’s Daytona 500, golf’s The Masters, and NCAA’s basketball’s Final Four), we have a five-way tie atop the leaderboard. Michaud, Pelli, Nancy Boistelle, Jeff Owczarski, and Jenn Kielbasa each with two points.
With a potential for three points available in every upcoming “Challenge” event, the race is far from over. Next up: the Kentucky Derby in early May. – CP
