Gators edge Rams; WHS’ Doiran tops all

HUNTINGTON – The Gateway Regional High School boys’ cross country team got the best of Southwick-Tolland, nipping the visiting Rams 28-29 Tuesday.
Gateway managed to grab six of the top 10 finishes, and were led by runner-up Chris Hanchuk, who finished in 17:23. The Gators swept fifth through ninth with Kyle Bessette completing the race in 18:41. He was followed by fellow teammates Dave Britland (18:1), Joe Jones (20:07), Brandon Daniels (20:08), and Adam Rioux (20:14).
Southwick’s Chris Roy claimed the top spot in 17:20. Juan Fuentes and Jared Demaio were third (18:29) and fourth (18:36), respectively, for the Rams, and Tyler Belisle was 10th in 20:49.
Minnechaug 25, Westfield 33
Westfield’s Ben Doiron won the race in 15:54 at Stanley Park, besting runner-up Sam Conway, of Minnechaug (16:01).
Cheyenne Grabiec (4th, 16:51), Gabe Piepergerdes (7th, 17:50), and Colin Irujo (8th, 18:00) also managed to crack the top 10 for the Bombers.
