Gators topple Franklin

HUNTINGTON – Gateway knocked off the Tri-County League’s top boys’ high school hoops’ team with a stellar effort from several players. The Gators defeated Franklin Tech 57-54.
Johnny Haskell produced an all-around super outing for Gateway, finishing with seven points, seven assists, six rebounds, five steals, and three blocks.
Gators’ Peter Kowal had a team-high 20 points, sophomore Brett Turban scored a career high 13 points, including three second-half 3-pointers, and sophomore center Shane Mastello had eight points to go along with a solid defensive performance.
Gateway rallied from a seven-point halftime deficit.
Brett Martin scored 18 points to lead Franklin Tech. Eagles’ Chris Wetherby had 13, seven of which came from the free throw line.

Tigers top Saints
Westfield Voc-Tech 61, St. Mary 20
Matt Wood scored 20 points to lead Voc-Tech in a home rout over visiting St. Mary. Tigers’ Dennis Legodukh came off the bench to score six points, and freshman Andrew Czerechma scored his first two varsity points of the season.
Mullim, Granby chase Rams
Granby 77, Southwick 48
Jesse Mullim scored a game-high 22 points to lead host Granby. Nick Moccio and Ryan LeClair led Southwick with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
The Rams fell to 2-6.
