Gators win thriller; WHS unbeaten again

CHICOPEE – The Gateway Gators are championship bound.
On Friday night, the Gateway girls’ soccer team outlasted Cathedral, winning a shootout 2-1 following a scoreless tie at the end of regulation and double overtime to earn a trip to Sunday’s finals at Westfield State University.
Cathedral managed to score the first goal in the shootout, but Gateway responded with a goal by Kendall Rooney. The Panthers tied the extra frame 1-1. Gators’ Alyssa Moreau notched the game-winner.
Both teams played strong throughout regulation with very few shots on net. – Noah Buchanan contributed to this report

Westfield 136.225, Minnechaug 132.75, Hampshire 124.55

Westfield extended its win streak to 11-0 (season) and 91-0 (overall) with another dominating performance. Taryn Hamel finished second all-around (34.35).
Hamel tied Becca Cyr and Brendan Whitman on vault (8.45) for second, tied Ashley Bates and Kendall Neidig for first on uneven bars (8.4), and placed third on floor (8.95). Whitman claimed first on floor (9.35).
