Golden Eagles need second-half surge

SPRINGFIELD – For one half of basketball, the Westfield High School Bombers kept one of the region’s most explosive teams in check. Unfortunately for the Whip City, the top-seeded Central Golden Eagles lit up the scoreboard with a 53-point explosion en route to a 68-33 West Division I quarterfinal victory.

Westfield (11-11) held Central (17-2) to just eight points in the first quarter and seven in the second quarter to enter the halftime break with a surprising one-point lead, 16-15.
Justin Feliciano sparked Central’s offense with 10 third-quarter points. Maickel DeJesus scored 18 in the fourth quarter to secure the victory for the home team.
Kam Wells led Westfield with 12 points.
