WESTFIELD – Golf Acres, a 45-acre recreational facility located at 317 Union St., will reopen under new ownership following approval of a special permit transfer at the Planning Board on Feb. 16.

Anthony R. Witman of Witman Properties in Holyoke, said he plans to continue the current use as a recreational destination consisting of a driving range, miniature golf area, batting range and miniature “Indy-style” go-kart track.

“We’re very excited about the place. We want to clean up and restore what’s there, and tap into its ecological beauty with nature trails,” he said.

Witman, who lives in South Hadley, said there are a lot of different habitats on the property, including a big pond, wetlands and Powdermill Brook, which runs through it. He said there are a lot of different species of birds. “There’s a lot of ecological wealth,” he said.

He also plans to add some kid-friendly areas, and make it more well-rounded for family fun.

“We’re in the process of identifying our management team,” Witman said, adding “Our goal is to open the fourth of July. We’ll have a party and celebrate the end of the pandemic together.”
